A Symposium about Painting as a Practice
31st March 3-6pm
This exhibition draws together eight artists using and abusing the recognised practices in painting. They offer works that swerve back and forth between organisation and impulse.
Many of the artists included are reclaiming established systems of production only to throw the viewer off course by introducing the problematic.
These works appear to want to defy categorisation. They puncture the established with the spontaneous and the objective with the subjective. This exhibition travels to Transition Gallery June/July 2011.
A publication documenting Working Against the System and the exhibition Fade Away curated by Alli Sharma is being completed.
The publication will include illustrations and artists statements with particular reference to the individual methods of their studio practice. It will include essays and contain an edited version of the symposium. All paying delegates will be sent a copy of the completed publication.
The Symposium will be offered at a reduced fee 0f £20 to NAFAE members and students. Normal Fee £50
