Added Value: Fine Art in a Changing Environment

Call for Proposals to participate in the NAFAE AGM and members forum: 12th March 2010 at the Swedenborg Society, 20-21 Bloomsbury Way London WC1A 2TH.

Outline:

Following the success of the Pedagogies and Practice theme of the last AGM, NAFAE would like to continue to promote and applaud areas of innovation and good practice within the Fine Art Subject area. The theme for the day is proposed in the context of the increasing need to meet the demands of such issues as employability, collaborating with external agencies and professional development, whilst also maintaining the distinctiveness and integrity of a practice based subject.

Proposals for presentations that demonstrate new and creative responses to a changing educational environment are invited from all academic staff employed within the Fine Art sector. Presentations may focus on initiatives that have been embedded in the curriculum, or that significantly enhance the cultural environment and student experience in some way. Whether this approach is identified in a one off event, is an established part of the curriculum, or offers 'added value' to learning and practice in general, NAFAE would like to hear about it.

It is hoped that the morning session will include presentations by two invited speakers, who will address the 'value of the visual arts' and the contribution that HE can make to our regional economies and cultures. Further details will be sent to members as soon as they are confirmed.

Abstracts and images from all the featured presentations will be published on the NAFAE web site.

Proposals are therefore invited for 10-minute presentations that identify innovative and distinctive practices in and beyond the Fine Art curriculum.

Themes might include:

  • Cross disciplinary projects
  • Regional, national and international collaborations
  • New approaches to professional practice
  • On-line learning
  • Improving the cultural environment
  • Adding value to the student experience beyond the curriculum, i.e. graduate
  • fellowships, residencies etc.

Suggestions for presentations are welcomed from new and fractional staff as well as full time and established academics.
Brief proposals (no more than 500 words) should be submitted to Andy Sheridan at admin@nafae.org.uk no later than 29th January 2010.
