The ARTIST TEACHER SCHEME is NSEAD’s flagship national programme of continuing professional development courses for teachers of art, design and craft. This year it celebrates ten years of continuous expansion with a conference that is both reflective and forward looking and which, in the spirit of the Scheme’s central tenet, focuses on the diverse voices and practice of contemporary artists, artist teachers and researchers.
The conference will be chaired by independent curator and art educationalist Vivienne reiss. The welcoming address will be made by Godfrey Worsdale, Director, BALTIC, Gateshead. Speakers are Fiona crisp, whose current exhibition, Subterrania, is on show at BALTIC until Sunday 4 October; Wendy hyde, artist, researcher and teacher; renée mussai, Archive Project Manager, Autograph ABP, London; michaela ross, artist and researcher; and Judy thomas, artist and Learning Manager, Waygood Gallery and Studios, Newcastle upon Tyne.
A selection of work by artist teachers and a showreel of artist teachers’ work will be on show at BALTIC on the day of the conference.

ARTIST TEACHER EXHIBITION

This complementary exhibition of work by artist teachers from ATS centres which offer MA courses will be on show at Northumbria University’s Gallery North, Newcastle upon Tyne. The exhibition and accompanying showreel of work will be curated by Helen Baker, Director, Gallery North and course leader of the UNN/ Baltic MA Art and Education course. This special delegates’ opening view follows the conference on Saturday 3 October 2009 from 5–7pm. NSEAD reserves the right to make changes to the programme and event schedule without prejudice or prior notice.
